The Ariston Genus 27 Bffi Plus Ng - Oct 2003 combination boilers and water heaters make use of a rubber diaphragm to trigger the domestic hot water by diverting the primary water circuit towards the plate heat exchanger. This allows hot water to the taps or perhaps shower. One side of the diaphragm is subject to indirect heat via the hot water in the primary circuit flowing through the hydraulic assembly. This design is common in combination boilers and other water central heating appliances. In case a diaphragm has failed the boiler won't switch easily between supplying water to the hot taps and providing central heating. In this instance it will need replacing. Many heating engineers will recommend replacing the whole hydraulic section.
