The pcb is essentially the brain of the boiler, installed with routines to safely run the appliance it was built for. Every action or event that takes place is monitored carefully by the PCB. Sensors and wires pass information and allow the pcb to utilise this in real time and react. The highest priority is safety, so the PCB can shut down the appliance at a moments notice if a safety concern is detected.
