The Halstead combination boilers and water heaters make use of a rubber diaphragm to activate the domestic hot water by diverting the primary water circuit towards the plate heat exchanger. This supplies hot water to the taps or perhaps shower. One side on the diaphragm is subject to indirect heat via the hot water in the primary circuit flowing through the hydraulic set up. This design is common in combination boilers and other water heating system appliances. If the diaphragm has failed the boiler and will not switch easily between delivering water to the hot taps and providing central heating. In this situation it will need replacing. Many heating engineers will recommend changing the complete hydraulic assembly.
